Crowds turn out for annual Openshaw Festival

25 September 2018

The crowds turned out at the weekend as east Manchester celebrated the fourth annual Openshaw Festival.

Lime Square hosted the annual event with a fantastic line up of local talent as well as a packed programme of fun activities and games for all the family to enjoy.

The event was hosted alongside Hits Radio Manchester Roadshow who held fun educational activities and workshops in collaboration with Greater Manchester Higher on the Hits Radio media bus throughout the day.

The team at Lime Square worked closely with other organisations such as Manchester Settlement, One Manchester, Biffa, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue, Greater Manchester Police, Explore Learning Ashton Under Lyne as well as local schools, after school clubs, businesses and community organisations.

A food and craft market was also part of the busy event as well as children’s fairground rides, arts and crafts activities and some special cycling challenges from the team at The Gym Group based at Lime Square.

A special artwork project was also initiated as part of the festival programme and the team at Lime Square are excited to be working with local mosaic artist Gillian Parish and local school children to deliver the final masterpiece. Further details regarding the project will be announced over the forthcoming days.

The event was officially opened by local youngsters from the Urbanized Dance Academy and the main stage entertainment featured a whole host of local artists including performances from Lola Soul and the ever popular Patelvis.

Head of Customer Service and Security at Lime Square, Jordray Adams, said: “Thankyou to everyone who came along to the Openshaw Festival, it was a lovely event and fantastic to see the local community coming together to help us put on a fantastic day of entertainment and events. We’re already planning next year’s festival so watch this space for an announcement on the date for 2019.”

Keep an eye on other events coming up at Lime Square. On Monday 22nd October the centre is hosting a special activity by the team from the Manchester Science Festival from 10am-4pm and the Lime Square Halloween event will take place on Saturday 27th October from 11am-5pm.
