Specsavers raises awareness of children’s eye health at St Clements summer fayre

8 August 2018

Children at an Openshaw primary school turned the focus on a Lime Square opticians during their summer fayre as they held a special Q&A session on eye health.

Pupils aged 5-11, at St Clements C of E Primary School met with Specsavers opticians Sarah McKenzie and Rachel Presswood, a former pupil at the school to learn more about the importance of eye care

The opticians offered free goodie bags to children who then took the unique opportunity to ask whatever questions they wished to Sarah and Rachel.

Store director Rachel Harrison says: ‘We had a wonderful time engaging with the local community at the St Clements summer fayre. It was great to see families having fun, and the questions from the children were all brilliant!

'Vision is crucial for a child’s development, and by educating them at such an early age, we will help to ensure they don’t encounter any eye health issues now or later in life.

‘The school’s summer fayre was such a fun day and we were delighted to be invited to talk to the children and hopefully we might have inspired a future optician or two.’

Most infants and pre-school children receive regular vision screening as part of their routine developmental checks. These early tests are invaluable, but are not as comprehensive as a full eye examination by a qualified optometrist. At Specsavers, the test is designed to be friendly and fun for kids of all ages.

Eye tests for children under 16 and in full time education are free on the NHS.
